Blackthorpe Barn receives a facelift
The Blackthorpe Barn boasts one of the most spectacular thatched roofs in East Anglia. Its 100 feet long roof was last thatched twenty years ago and was beginning to look tired. Owner of the Barn George Agnew said ‘The Barn’s ridge was beginning to deteriorate quite fast, not helped by having a squirrel living in it! If nothing had been done we would soon have had a big problem on our hands.’
Is this the longest thatched ridge in Britain?

Local thatcher Luke Green was brought in to rectify the situation. A month’s work for two men resulted in the ridge being renewed and the remaining thatch being given a new lease of life.’ It is hoped that the whole roof will now survive for another twenty years before it need further attention.
