Summer Music International Festival 2008
Summer Music at Blackthorpe Barn opened spectacularly on Friday 4 July with a brilliant display of percussion playing from 4-mality, the quartet of drummers led by Adrian Spillett, former BBC Young Musician of the Year. The enthusiastic audience kept shouting for more until they got their encore.
Saturday night saw the Razumovsky Ensemble with Russian cellist Oleg Kogan performing the great Tchaikovsky Piano Trio to the audience’s delight and on Sunday the Barn audience had a chance to gaze into the future as some of the most brilliant young string players in the world performed under its thatched roof. Fourteen year old Guro Kleven Hagen had flown in from Norway that morning specially to perform at the Barn but all hearts were stolen by Ha-Young Jung, the extraordinary eighteen year old double bass player from Korea who amazed the audience with her skill and virtuosity.
Next weekend, 11-13 July, Summer Music continues with Ukrainian pianist Yevgeny Sudbin whom the Daily Telegraph recently described as ‘potentially one of the greatest pianists of the twenty-first century’, cellist Alex Chaushian from Armenia and the Pavel Haas String Quartet from Prague.
Advance tickets for all concerts are available from 01284 769505 until Friday or from 01359 270880 from then on. They will also be available on the door from 6.30pm on the night.
